Aleema and Uzma Khan Moved to Jhelum Jail After Court Decision

Aleema and Uzma Khan Moved to Jhelum Jail

On October 14, Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan, sisters of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, were transferred to District Jail Jhelum from Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. This move followed a court decision rejecting a police request to extend their physical remand. The anti-terrorism court ordered their judicial remand instead. Strict security measures are in place at Jhelum jail, with around 500 prisoners being relocated in small groups to maintain order.

Attempts to contact Jail Superintendent Syed Hassan Mujtaba Shah for comments were unsuccessful. Earlier, the court had rejected the extension of the sisters’ physical remand and issued notices regarding their bail applications. The sisters were presented in court under tight security, with legal representatives from both sides making their arguments.

Defense counsel Niazullah Khan Niazi argued against further remand, while Prosecutor Raja Naveed sought more time to recover “critical evidence” like mobile phones. Another defense counsel, Usman Riaz Gill, raised concerns about procedural violations in remanding women and requested the court to review protest footage. Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra rejected this request, stating the USB should be examined by police investigators. The judge expressed dissatisfaction with the prosecution’s explanations, emphasizing the need for documented developments in the case.

The court issued notices on the bail applications for both sisters, with the next hearing scheduled for October 19.
