Akshay Bhatia Leads Rocket Mortgage Championship with Amazing 8-Under 64

Indian-American golfer Akshay Bhatia, who is just 22 years old, is leading the Rocket Mortgage Championship after an impressive performance at the Detroit Golf Club. Bhatia shot an 8-under 64, finishing his round with a birdie-eagle-birdie sequence.

Bhatia, who has already won twice on the PGA Tour, including the Valero Texas Open this season, expressed his satisfaction with his performance. He said, “Yeah, it’s always nice to finish like that. This tournament’s always kind of a birdie-fest, so birdies and eagles help a lot. It’s nice to finish that way.”

He added, “I putted great. I missed one green today, so I got that up and down. All in all, I hit it pretty nice with the irons and I made some putts. Driver, 3-wood didn’t feel too good, but I’ve got some time to go work on that.”

Other notable performances include England’s Aaron Rai, who shot 66 and was Tied-fourth, and defending champion Rickie Fowler, who also shot 66, closing with three straight birdies. Taylor Montgomery and Michael Kim were just a stroke behind Bhatia.
