Akhtar Mengal Alleges Abduction of BNP Senators

In Islamabad, Akhtar Mengal, leader of the Balochistan National Party (BNP), has accused authorities of abducting two senators from his party along with their families. He stated that he will not support the ongoing constitutional amendment discussions in Pakistan until his party members are safely returned.

Concerns Over Government Actions

Mengal expressed his frustration with the government’s handling of the situation, questioning the urgency of constitutional changes without public transparency. He claimed that a female senator’s family was taken hostage to force her attendance at a luncheon with the Prime Minister, calling it a disrespect to the democratic process.

Opposition to Coercive Amendments

Mengal condemned the lack of transparency in the proposed amendments, describing it as an attack on democracy. He insisted that no constitutional changes should occur under coercive circumstances and pledged to engage with the opposition alliance on this matter.

PTI’s Role in Constitutional Discussions

Meanwhile, a delegation from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) visited Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s residence to discuss the constitutional amendments. Led by Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, the PTI delegation included notable figures like Barrister Salman Akram Raja and Asad Qaiser. They engaged in detailed conversations about the reforms, with a consensus nearly reached with JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman regarding the 26th Constitutional Amendment.
