Akhilesh Yadav Seeks Alliance with Maha Vikas Aghadi for Maharashtra Elections

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav announced plans to form an alliance with the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections. He stated that if the alliance does not materialize, the party will contest certain seats that do not harm the MVA.

Yadav expressed concerns about being ignored and emphasized that the Maharashtra president of the Samajwadi Party will decide on the number of seats to contest. He criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for allegedly using officials instead of workers in the elections, predicting their defeat.

Maharashtra SP Chief Abu Azmi voiced worries about potential betrayal, similar to previous terms, and has been given full authority by Yadav to make decisions regarding seat contests. Azmi hopes to avoid breaking the MVA but is prepared to contest alone if necessary.

Meanwhile, Congress released its third list of 16 candidates, bringing their total to 87. Each MVA partner, including Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar), will contest 85 seats each. The nomination process for the 288 assembly seats has begun, with polling scheduled for November 20 and results to be announced on November 23.
