Akhilesh Yadav Criticizes New DGP Appointment Rules and By-Election Postponement in Uttar Pradesh

In Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, former Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav expressed his disapproval of the new rules for appointing the Director General of Police (DGP). The new guidelines mandate a two-year term for the DGP and require a nominating committee led by a retired High Court judge. Yadav questioned if the person implementing these changes would remain in power for two years.

Yadav also commented on the rescheduling of by-elections in Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, and Punjab from November 13 to November 20. He suggested that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) postponed the elections to prevent people affected by unemployment in Uttar Pradesh from voting. He remarked that the BJP’s decision to delay the elections shows their weakness.

The Election Commission rescheduled the elections to improve voter participation, with polling now set for November 20 and counting on November 23 and 25.
