Incident During Durga Idol Immersion
In Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, a clash between two communities during the immersion of Goddess Durga’s idol resulted in the death of one person. The violence erupted in the Mahasi area when the procession passed through a Muslim neighborhood, leading to an argument and subsequent firing.
Akhilesh Yadav’s Response
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Uttar Pradesh government for their handling of the situation. He emphasized that the administration should have monitored the songs played on loudspeakers during the procession to prevent any provocation.
Yadav accused the BJP of spreading hatred and dividing society for political gain. He stated, “The entire responsibility was that of the Administration and Government. Due to the Administration’s negligence, such a major incident occurred.”
Police Action
Following the incident, protests erupted in Bahraich. The police used tear gas and lathi charge to disperse the crowd. Thirty people have been detained, and efforts are underway to apprehend the main accused.
