Akhilesh Yadav Criticizes BJP Over Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Statue Collapse in Maharashtra

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], August 26: Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav has criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following the collapse of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s statue in Maharashtra. He claimed that every BJP construction project is marred by corruption and predicted that the people of Maharashtra will oust the BJP government in the upcoming elections.

In a post on X, Akhilesh Yadav stated, “Every construction undertaken by the BJP falls victim to corruption. The collapse of the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Sindhudurg, Maharashtra, which was inaugurated by the Prime Minister himself, is a highly unfortunate event. There should be a thorough investigation of all government and non-government individuals involved in its construction, and the strictest punitive action should be taken.”

He added, “This is an emotional blow not only to the people of Maharashtra but to the entire country. The people of Maharashtra will respond to such acts of BJP corruption by ousting the BJP government in the upcoming elections.”

Earlier, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde called the collapse “unfortunate” and announced that officials from PWD and the Navy will investigate the cause on August 27. Shinde mentioned that the statue fell due to strong winds and assured that the Maharashtra government will reinstall the statue at the same place.

The statue, unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Rajkot Fort, Sindhudurg, Maharashtra on December 4, 2023, was damaged by strong winds. Nationalist Congress Party MP Supriya Sule demanded action against the contractor responsible for the statue’s construction, calling for a thorough investigation into the poor quality of work.

Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut criticized Prime Minister Modi, suggesting that the statue’s hasty inauguration was politically motivated and poorly executed.
