Akhilesh Yadav Confirms Alliance with Congress for UP By-Polls
In Etawah, Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav, the Kannauj MP and Samajwadi Party Chief, assured that the alliance between the Samajwadi Party and Congress will remain strong for the upcoming by-elections in Uttar Pradesh. This statement comes amid rumors of a rift within the INDIA bloc in the state.
Alliance Details
During a media address on the second death anniversary of Mulayam Singh Yadav, Akhilesh Yadav confirmed that the Samajwadi Party and Congress will contest the by-elections together. The Samajwadi Party has already announced candidates for six seats: Karhal, Sisamau, Katheri, Phulpur, Milkipur, and Majhwa.
Congress’s Response
Avinash Pandey, Congress State Incharge, mentioned that the party was not informed about the seat announcements and no discussions were held with the INDIA bloc’s coordination committee. However, he expressed confidence in the alliance and stated that the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee would follow the decisions made by the INDIA alliance’s Coordination Committee.
UP Congress President Ajay Rai supported Pandey’s statement, emphasizing that the central leadership will make the final decision, and the alliance with the Samajwadi Party will continue.
Upcoming By-Elections
The by-elections are expected to take place later this year for ten assembly seats, including Katehari, Ghaziabad, Majhawan, Sisamau, Karhal, Milkipur, Meerapur, Khair, Phulpur, and Kundarki.
BJP’s Preparation
Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya stated that the BJP is well-prepared for the by-polls, aiming to reclaim its seats and potentially win those held by the Samajwadi Party. Out of the ten seats, five were previously won by the Samajwadi Party, three by the BJP, and one each by the Rashtriya Lok Dal and Nishad Party, both NDA partners.
