At the International Telecommunication Union – World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly, Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm, emphasized the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for India. He envisions AI as a key driver in turning India into a global manufacturing and service hub, aiming for a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047. Ambani praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, attributing India’s digital transformation and global standing in telecommunications to his guidance.

Ambani noted the synergy between government and industry in delivering world-class services to 1.45 billion Indians. He highlighted India’s rapid progress from 2G to 5G and its rise as the world’s largest data market. He also stressed the importance of inclusivity in digital transformation, citing the integration of 530 million ‘unbanked’ Indians into the financial system through the PM’s Jan-Dhan Yojana.

Ambani proposed two key suggestions: embracing AI urgently and updating the 2020 draft of the data centre policy to retain Indian data within the country. He emphasized the need for accelerated talent generation to position India as a global AI leader, predicting the evolution of existing jobs and the creation of new opportunities.
