Ajni Railway Station in Nagpur to be Redeveloped Ahead of Schedule

The redevelopment of Ajni Railway Station in Nagpur, Maharashtra, is making significant progress and is set to be completed four months ahead of schedule. The Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA), under the Ministry of Railways, is leading this project.

Project Details

Ajni Railway Station, a key station for the Nagpur Division of the Central Railway, is being upgraded to provide the best facilities to passengers. The new design includes green building concepts and amenities for Divyangjan (persons with disabilities).

Construction Progress

Construction on both the eastern and western sides of the station is progressing well. The project is planned to accommodate 45,000 passengers daily and includes:

  • Two dedicated FOBs (Foot Over Bridges) for arriving passengers.
  • A Roof Plaza connecting each platform via escalators, lifts, and staircases.
  • Surface parking and circulating areas for smooth traffic flow.

On the east side, a new station building (G+3) is under construction, with existing utilities dismantled to make way for new structures. On the west side, a temporary station building has been constructed to avoid disruption of passenger movement.

Phased Approach

The redevelopment follows a phased approach to minimize disruption to train operations and passenger movement. The project is currently at 30% physical progress and is expected to be completed by January 2026, with a total cost of Rs. 297 crore.

RLDA’s Role

The RLDA is a statutory authority under the Ministry of Railways responsible for the development of railway land. It is currently developing 15 railway stations across India, including major stations like New Delhi Railway Station and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) Railway Station.
