New Delhi, India – Ajit Pawar, the NCP chief and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister, has chosen not to comment on his uncle Sharad Pawar’s remarks about the possibility of reuniting. Ajit Pawar confirmed that he will contest the upcoming assembly elections as part of the ruling Mahayuti alliance, which includes BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP.

In an interview, Ajit Pawar acknowledged that the Mahayuti alliance did not perform as expected in the recent Lok Sabha elections but noted that the vote difference with the opposition was very small. He joined the BJP-Shiv Sena government in Maharashtra last year, leading to a split in NCP.

Sharad Pawar mentioned that those who supported him during tough times would decide Ajit Pawar’s future in the party. Ajit Pawar emphasized that they will continue to respect Sharad Pawar, who has been in politics for over 60 years.

Ajit Pawar is currently on a ‘Jan Sanman Yatra’ to prepare for the assembly polls. He stated that the final decision will be made by the voters and that their rallies are ongoing with participation from major leaders.

In the recent Lok Sabha elections, the INDIA bloc parties won 30 out of 48 seats in Maharashtra. Ajit Pawar’s NCP won one of the four seats it contested. He highlighted that the vote difference between Mahayuti and the opposition was less than 0.6% in some areas.

Ajit Pawar also expressed his belief that family members should not contest against each other in elections, referring to his wife Sunetra Pawar running against Sharad Pawar’s daughter Supriya Sule. Supriya Sule won the seat with a margin of over 1.5 lakh votes.

He mentioned that NCP had to give up the Parbhani Lok Sabha seat during seat negotiations within the ruling alliance but took the Dharashiv seat instead. Ajit Pawar concluded by saying that he always tries to do what he believes is right, with decisions made after discussions with party leaders.
