Ajit Pawar Hints at Son Jay Pawar Contesting from Baramati
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has expressed that he is not interested in contesting from the Baramati assembly constituency again. He hinted that his son, Jay Pawar, might take his place. Ajit Pawar stated, “It’s democracy. I am not much interested in it because I have been part of 7-8 elections. If people and party workers think in such a way, then the parliamentary board should think about it. If the parliamentary board and the local party workers want it then we are ready to do it.”
Baramati has been a stronghold for Ajit Pawar, who has been re-elected from the seat multiple times since 1995. He is currently on a state-wide tour to promote government schemes for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly Polls.
Reflecting on Past Election Mistake
Earlier, Ajit Pawar admitted that he made a mistake by fielding his wife, Sunetra Pawar, against his sister, Supriya Sule, in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He said, “I love all my sisters. One shouldn’t allow politics to enter homes. I made a mistake in fielding Sunetra against my sister. This shouldn’t have happened. But the parliamentary board (of NCP) made a decision. Now I feel it was wrong.”
Supriya Sule retained her Baramati Lok Sabha seat by more than 1.55 lakh votes, defeating Sunetra Pawar. Sule received 7,32,312 votes, while Sunetra Pawar garnered 5,73,979 votes.
