Ajit Pawar Faces Setback as 600 NCP Workers Resign in Pune

In a significant development ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly elections, over 600 members of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in Pune resigned. This mass resignation was in protest against the decision not to appoint Deepak Mankar, Pune City President, to an MLC post. The resignations include city vice presidents, assembly constituency chiefs, and various cell heads.

The protestors gathered at the NCP office in Pune’s Narayanpeth area, expressing their disappointment with the party’s decision to re-nominate individuals with existing political family ties instead of Mankar. They prepared a memorandum for Ajit Pawar, the party’s national president and Deputy Chief Minister, highlighting Mankar’s contributions and the potential weakening of the party due to this decision.

Datta Sagare, Vice President of NCP Pune City, stated that the resignations were a form of protest, but the members would remain in the party, hoping for justice from Ajit Pawar. Nilesh Shinde, another party worker, emphasized Mankar’s long-standing dedication to the party and his capability to strengthen the party cadre in Pune.

The Election Commission of India announced that the Maharashtra assembly elections will occur on November 20, with results on November 23. On the same day, seven MLCs were sworn in, including members from BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP, but not Mankar.
