Ajit Pawar and Yugendra Pawar Compete in Baramati for Maharashtra Assembly Elections

As the Maharashtra Assembly elections approach, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar is actively campaigning in Malad. He recently filed his nomination for the Baramati assembly seat. Ajit Pawar, who split the NCP in June 2023, faces competition from his nephew, Yugendra Pawar, who is also contesting from Baramati as an NCP-SP candidate.

Ajit Pawar commented on the candidacy of Nawab Malik, an NCP leader from Mankhurd Shivaji Nagar, stating that the final candidate list will be clear by November 4. Meanwhile, Mumbai BJP Chief Ashish Shelar criticized Ajit Pawar for giving Malik a ticket, citing serious allegations against him. Shelar emphasized that the BJP will not support Malik and will instead back his opponent.

Nawab Malik remains confident, dismissing opposition from the BJP and Shiv Sena Shinde faction, and expects to win by a large margin. The Baramati Lok Sabha seat is a significant contest for the Pawar family, with Ajit Pawar facing his nephew Yugendra Pawar. Ajit previously lost the Lok Sabha seat when his sister Supriya Sule defeated his wife.

Supriya Sule supports Yugendra’s nomination, believing it will rejuvenate the party with a mix of new ideas and experience. Yugendra acknowledges the challenge of competing against his uncle but remains optimistic about his support in Baramati.

The BJP is allied with NCP (Ajit Pawar) and Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) in the Mahayuti alliance, while the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) includes Congress, Sharad Pawar-led NCP, and Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena. The elections are set for November 20, with results on November 23.
