Ajit Doval’s Moscow Visit: India Aims to Mediate Russia-Ukraine Peace Talks

New Delhi, India – Former Indian diplomat KP Fabian emphasized the need for sincerity and transparency from Russia and Ukraine to achieve a ceasefire. He highlighted India’s potential role in the peace process ahead of National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval’s visit to Moscow.

India’s Role in Peace Talks

Fabian noted that a mediator can only assist if the warring sides genuinely want peace. He expects Doval to discuss the Ukraine crisis with Russian NSA Nikolai Patrushev and other key officials during the BRICS NSA meeting in Kazan from October 22-24.

Complexity of the Conflict

Fabian pointed out the extensive damage in Ukraine and stressed the importance of ending the conflict. He reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message that this is not the era for war.

India’s Diplomatic Efforts

After unsuccessful Western attempts to broker peace, India is stepping up. Following PM Modi’s meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, NSA Doval is set for crucial talks in Moscow. World leaders are hopeful that India can mediate peace.

Changing Dynamics

Fabian also mentioned the diminishing Western support for Ukraine, which could push Ukraine towards seeking a ceasefire. However, President Zelenskyy has expressed his intent to pursue victory.

BRICS Summit and Diplomatic Strategy

Fabian highlighted Putin’s strategic efforts to secure a favorable declaration from the BRICS Summit. Foreign affairs expert Robinder Sachdev noted that Doval’s visit is multi-dimensional, carrying a message from PM Modi to President Putin, which could be pivotal in India’s diplomatic approach to the Ukraine conflict.
