Ajit Doval Meets Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi at BRICS Meeting in Russia

On September 12, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on the sidelines of the BRICS National Security Advisers’ meeting in Saint Petersburg, Russia. During their discussions, Doval emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and tranquility in border areas and respecting the Line of Actual Control (LAC) to restore normalcy in bilateral relations between India and China.

The meeting provided an opportunity for both countries to review recent efforts towards resolving remaining issues along the LAC. Both sides agreed to work urgently and redouble their efforts to achieve complete disengagement in the remaining areas. Doval stressed that peace and respect for the LAC are essential for normal bilateral relations and that both countries must fully abide by past agreements and protocols.

Additionally, the two sides acknowledged the significance of the India-China bilateral relationship for the region and the world. They also exchanged views on global and regional situations.

Earlier in the day, Ajit Doval met with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Konstantinovsky Palace in Saint Petersburg. The Russian Embassy in India shared pictures of their handshake. Russia is holding the BRICS chairmanship for 2024, and new members Egypt, Iran, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Ethiopia joined the grouping in 2023. Doval had also participated in the 13th BRICS NSA meeting in Johannesburg in July 2023.
