Ajinkya Rahane Joins Leicestershire for 2024 County Season

Former India captain Ajinkya Rahane has been signed by Leicestershire for the second half of the 2024 county season. The club announced that Rahane will play in the One Day Cup and the final five Vitality County Championship matches.

Rahane expressed his excitement about joining the team, saying, “I’m really excited to have another opportunity to come to Leicestershire. I’ve built a strong rapport with Claude (Henderson) and Alfonso (Thomas), and I’m looking forward to playing for the Club this summer.”

Rahane was initially set to join Leicestershire last summer, but international commitments changed his plans. Now, he will cover for Wiaan Mulder, who will be with South Africa’s team in the Caribbean. Rahane has scored over 26,000 runs in his career, including 51 centuries, and has been capped 195 times for India.

Leicestershire’s Director of Cricket, Claude Henderson, said, “We are thrilled to welcome someone of Ajinkya’s quality to Leicestershire. It was unfortunate that Ajinkya’s schedule didn’t quite work with ours last year, but it’s a massive boost to have secured his services for the business end of this season.”

Rahane will arrive in mid-July as Leicestershire prepares for their opening match against Notts Outlaws in the One Day Cup at the Uptonsteel County Ground on July 24.
