Ajay Rai Accuses BJP of Manipulating Uttar Pradesh Bypolls

In Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, Congress President Ajay Rai has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to manipulate the Assembly bypolls in the state. Rai expressed concerns over the delay in the Milkipur seat bypolls, suggesting that the BJP is trying to influence the elections due to fear of losing. He emphasized that Congress, as part of the INDIA bloc, is determined to win all nine seats and defeat the BJP.

Election Commission’s Announcement

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar announced that there are ten vacant assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh, but bypolls were declared for only nine. The Milkipur seat in Ayodhya was excluded due to a pending election petition. The Election Commission had previously announced by-election schedules for 48 assembly constituencies, including nine in Uttar Pradesh and the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala.

Bypolls Schedule

Polling for 47 assembly seats and the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat is set for November 13, while one assembly constituency in Uttarakhand and the Nanded constituency in Maharashtra will vote on November 20. Jharkhand’s assembly polls will occur in two phases on November 13 and 20, with Maharashtra voting on November 20. Results will be announced on November 23.

Significance of Bypolls

The bypolls are significant for the BJP, which aims to regain its momentum in Uttar Pradesh after a setback in the Lok Sabha polls, where it won only 33 seats compared to 62 in 2019. The opposition, including the Samajwadi Party, which has declared candidates for six of the ten seats, is also keen to challenge the BJP.
