Ajay Kumar Lallu and Akhilesh Yadav Criticize ‘One Nation, One Election’ Plan

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], September 20: Ajay Kumar Lallu, the former President of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee, has voiced strong opposition to the ‘One Nation, One Election’ initiative. He believes it contradicts the constitutional framework and undermines democratic rights. Lallu stated, “The Constitution provides a clear framework for the state government, and deviating from that would undermine its principles.”

Lallu also criticized the BJP for not addressing pressing national issues like unemployment and the caste census. He pointed out that India ranks 111th out of 125 countries in terms of hunger, urging Prime Minister Modi and Amit Shah to focus on improving the country’s image.

Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav also criticized the BJP’s ‘One Nation, One Election’ initiative. He questioned the BJP’s motives, asking why the party conducts so many rallies if it truly wants to save expenses. Yadav warned that the initiative could lead to the outsourcing of election officers and workers.

The Cabinet has approved the ‘One Nation, One Election’ proposal, which aims to hold simultaneous Lok Sabha and assembly elections, along with urban body and panchayat polls within 100 days. A High-level Committee on Simultaneous Elections, chaired by former President Ram Nath Kovind, submitted its report to President Droupadi Murmu earlier this year. The report, consisting of 18,626 pages, is based on extensive consultations and research over 191 days.
