AIUDF’s Rafiqul Islam Criticizes National NRC and One Nation, One Election Policy

Guwahati (Assam) [India], October 2: The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has expressed doubts about the feasibility of a national-level National Register of Citizens (NRC). AIUDF MLA and party General Secretary Rafiqul Islam highlighted that the NRC updation process in Assam is still incomplete despite spending over Rs 1600 crore.

Islam questioned Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma’s advocacy for a national NRC, stating, “How is it possible? We want those illegal foreigners who entered Assam after 1971 to be identified and deported. But the updated NRC in Assam is yet to be finalized.”

He criticized the Assam Chief Minister and BJP for engaging in communal politics, particularly through the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), which grants Indian citizenship to people from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. Islam emphasized that his party aims to identify and deport all Muslims and Hindus who came from Bangladesh to Assam after 1971.

Regarding the One Nation, One Election policy, Islam said, “The idea is not practical enough for such a big country. It is only to divert the mind of the people. Even if they implement it right now, it will fall again in some time. Modi should leave this concept.” He also questioned the knowledge of BJP members on this matter.
