Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit Inaugurates New Chaff Plant in Nagpur
On July 31, Indian Air Force Deputy Chief Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit inaugurated a new Chaff Plant at Economic Explosives Limited (EEL) in Nagpur. This plant is a 100% subsidiary of Solar Industries India Limited.
Chaff is an electronic countermeasure device used to disrupt enemy radar. The new plant is the first fully indigenous facility in India to produce chaff, reducing the country’s dependency on imports. The plant manufactures various types of chaff and impulse cartridges for different aircraft, including Jaguar, MIG29, Mirage 2000, Apache, and more.
The Chaff payloads were developed by EEL with support from Defence Laboratory, Jodhpur, under the Buy Indian-IDDM category. The facility has received airworthiness certification from the Air Force Inspecting Authorities, allowing the chaff to be fitted on various airborne platforms.
To meet the high demand from the Armed Forces, EEL is increasing its manufacturing capacity, which will be completed in six months. This marks a significant advancement in indigenous defense technology.
