New Delhi, India – Air Marshal AP Singh, an experienced test pilot, will take over as the new Indian Air Force (IAF) chief on September 30. He will succeed Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari, who is retiring after a three-year tenure.
About Air Marshal AP Singh
Born on October 27, 1964, Air Marshal Singh was commissioned into the fighter pilot stream of the IAF in December 1984. He has served for nearly 40 years in various command, staff, instructional, and foreign roles. He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Defence Services Staff College, and National Defence College.
Career Highlights
Air Marshal Singh is a Qualified Flying Instructor and an Experimental Test Pilot with over 5,000 hours of flying experience on various aircraft. He has commanded an operational fighter squadron and a frontline air base. He led the MiG-29 Upgrade Project Management Team in Moscow, Russia, and was the Project Director (Flight Test) at the National Flight Test Centre, where he tested the Light Combat Aircraft, Tejas.
He has also held significant staff positions, including Air Defence Commander at South Western Air Command and Senior Air Staff Officer at Eastern Air Command. Before his current role as Vice Chief of the Air Staff, he was the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Central Air Command.
