Canadian Government’s Role

Harjit Sajjan, Canadian Minister of Emergency Preparedness, approved the use of a Canadian Forces aircraft to transport the 211 stranded passengers to Chicago. The city of Iqaluit was not equipped to accommodate the passengers, prompting this decision.
