Air India Express Flight Safely Lands in Trichy After Technical Issue

An Air India Express flight from Tiruchirappalli to Sharjah faced a technical problem, leading to a safe landing back at Trichy airport. Trichy District Collector Pradeep Kumar explained that the aircraft had a landing issue, and officials coordinated with the airport authority and air traffic control to assist. The pilot played a crucial role in ensuring passenger safety.

“There was a landing issue in the flight. Once identified, we coordinated with the airport authority and air traffic signal. The pilot confirmed a 90% chance of a safe landing. We prepared with 18 ambulances and doctor teams,” said Kumar. The pilots, Iqrom Rifadly, Fahmi Zainal, and co-pilot Maitryee Shrikrishna Shitole, were seen leaving the airport safely.

On October 11, MoS Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol stated that a major accident was averted due to coordination between the pilot, ATC, and Airport Director. The flight had to return to Trichy due to hydraulic failure, circling for two hours to reduce fuel before landing safely. All 140 passengers were unharmed, and an alternate aircraft was arranged. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has grounded the aircraft and ordered a probe.
