New Delhi, India – AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi has criticized the government’s decision to allow government employees to participate in activities of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Owaisi stated that this decision is “wrong” and highlighted that the RSS was previously banned after the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. He emphasized that the RSS had to agree to respect the Indian Constitution and national flag to lift the ban, and now the BJP-NDA government is permitting government servants to join RSS activities.

Congress MP Karti Chidambaram also opposed the decision, stating that government functionaries should not be members of any political organization. He questioned the government’s rationale for lifting the ban.

Karnataka Minister HK Patil expressed concerns that making employees attend RSS events would divert them from their main objectives. Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi attributed the poor state of institutions like NTA and UPSC to RSS members joining them.

RJD leader Manoj Jha and Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi also criticized the decision, with Chaturvedi calling it “shameful.”

On the other hand, Madhya Pradesh BJP President VD Sharma and BJP leader Amit Malviya supported the decision. Sharma called it a welcome step, while Malviya stated that the original ban was “unconstitutional” and should not have been imposed in the first place.

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh accused the Union government of removing a ban that was in place even during former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s tenure.
