AIIMS Delhi Faces Flooding After Heavy Rains

Heavy rains in New Delhi caused severe waterlogging at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), particularly in the basement of the Trauma Centre. This led to the temporary halt of operations in the Operation Theatre (OT). AIIMS Media Protocol In-Charge, Rima Dada, stated that despite the flooding, four life-threatening surgeries were performed.

The Director and Additional Director assessed the situation, and power was restored by 4 p.m., allowing surgeries to continue throughout the night. Efforts to clear the waterlogging are ongoing, with pumps installed in the basement. The tunnel connecting AIIMS to the Trauma Centre has been cleared, but Basement 3 remains inundated.

On June 27, 364 patients were operated on, and on June 28, the day of heavy rains, 347 surgeries were performed. The Neurosciences Centre also faced issues due to air-conditioning failure and water seepage, leading to the referral of patients to other hospitals.
