AICC and APCC Team Visit Flood-Hit Morigaon, Assam
A team from the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) visited the flood-affected Morigaon district in Assam on Monday. The team, led by AICC General Secretary Jitendra Singh and Assam Congress President Bhupen Kumar Borah, included MLAs Debabrata Saikia, Jakir Hussain Sikdar, Rekibuddin Ahmed, and Nandita Das.
They distributed relief materials to the flood victims in the Mayong area of Morigaon district. Jitendra Singh criticized both the central and state governments for not providing sufficient relief materials, stating, “There is a double engine government at the centre and Assam, but they failed to solve the flood problem in the state in the last 10 years.” He added that Congress would raise the issue in parliament and the state assembly.
Bhupen Kumar Borah highlighted that more than 90 people have died and 30 lakh people have been affected by the floods in Assam, accusing the government of not taking the issue seriously. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) reported that the floods have claimed 93 lives, with two recent deaths in Karimganj district. The Brahmaputra River and other rivers are flowing above danger levels in several areas.
