On Friday, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) executive committee held a meeting at the party’s headquarters in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The meeting was chaired by the party’s General Secretary, Edappadi K Palaniswami.

During the meeting, the committee endorsed Palaniswami’s leadership and discussed strategies for the upcoming local body and state assembly elections in 2026. Nine resolutions were passed, including a resolution expressing gratitude to AIADMK voters and cadres for their efforts in the 2024 General Elections.

The resolutions criticized the DMK administration for various issues, such as failing to distribute essential items through ration shops, increasing electricity bills, and halting welfare schemes. The DMK government was also condemned for its handling of law and order issues and not fulfilling election promises.

Additionally, the AIADMK criticized the Union Government for neglecting Tamil Nadu in the recent Union Budget. The party urged the central government to withdraw the 18 percent GST on life and health insurance and to declare the Wayanad landslides as a national disaster.

The meeting was presided over by AIADMK Presidium Chairman Tamilmagan Hussain, with General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami and other top party leaders in attendance. Over 230 executive committee members participated, discussing potential changes to party bylaws and organizational structure.

In preparation for the 2026 state assembly elections, the AIADMK is focusing on making changes to its organizational structure. Earlier, Palaniswami held a meeting with constituency functionaries to review the party’s defeat in the 2024 General Elections. The DMK won 22 out of the 39 seats in Tamil Nadu, while the AIADMK lost the one seat (Theni) they had won in 2019.
