AIADMK Protests in Tamil Nadu Assembly Over Kallakurichi Hooch Tragedy

In Chennai, Tamil Nadu, AIADMK legislators walked out of the state assembly to protest the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy. The incident, where 17 people died from methanol-laced liquor, led to demands for a discussion and the resignation of Chief Minister MK Stalin. Speaker M Appavu rejected the request, causing a ruckus and a walkout.

AIADMK leader Edappadi Palaniswami criticized the government, claiming 55 deaths and 183 affected individuals. He blamed the government for delayed treatment. Tamil Nadu Health Minister Subramanian Ma confirmed 50 deaths and 185 hospitalizations across four hospitals.

The assembly session saw AIADMK members in black clothes raising slogans, leading to their eviction. Three accused in the case were sent to judicial custody. A judicial inquiry led by retired judge Justice B Gokuldas was ordered, with a report due in three months. Chief Minister MK Stalin announced compensation for the victims’ families and those under treatment.
