Afghanistan’s Big Win Over Australia in T20 World Cup: Rashid Khan and Team Shine

Kingstown [Saint Vincent], June 23: Afghanistan’s cricket team celebrated a huge victory over Australia, winning by 21 runs in the Super 8 clash of the T20 World Cup at Arnos Vale Ground. Captain Rashid Khan expressed his joy and pride in his team’s performance, especially highlighting the efforts of Gulbadin Naib, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, and Mohammed Nabi.

Australia, who chose to bowl first, faced a strong start from Afghanistan with an impressive 118-run partnership between Rahmanullah Gurbaz (60 runs) and Ibrahim Zadran (51 runs). Despite tight bowling from Australia, including a hat trick by Pat Cummins and a good spell from Adam Zampa, Afghanistan managed to score 148/6 in 20 overs.

During Australia’s run-chase, they were quickly reduced to 32/3 due to a fine spell by Naveen ul Haq. Although Glenn Maxwell tried to steady the innings with 59 runs, Gulbadin Naib’s crucial wickets led to Australia being bowled out for 127 runs in 19.2 overs. This marked Australia’s first-ever loss to Afghanistan in international cricket.

Gulbadin Naib was named ‘Player of the Match’ for his outstanding bowling, which included taking the wickets of key Australian players. With this win, Afghanistan is now third in their group, while Australia is second, both with two points each. The upcoming matches will determine the final standings and who advances in the tournament.
