Affordable Medicines for All: How Jan Aushadhi Kendras Are Helping India

The Indian government is working hard to make medicines affordable for everyone through the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP). This program allows people to buy medicines at a discount of up to 90%.

Expansion Plans

Dr. Arunish Chawla, Secretary of the Department of Pharmaceuticals, announced that the number of Jan Aushadhi Kendras will increase from 10,000 to 25,000 in the next three years. Currently, there are over 13,000 centers across the country.

Quality and Distribution

Ravi Dadhich, CEO of the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI), explained that India has 10,000 manufacturing units producing these medicines. These units are WHO-GMP certified to ensure high quality. After production, the medicines are sent to national warehouses and retested at NABL-accredited labs before being distributed to Jan Aushadhi centers.

Cost Savings

These medicines are much cheaper than branded ones, with discounts ranging from 50% to 90%. This makes healthcare more affordable for many people in India.
