Aditya Mishra, Chairman of the Land Ports Authority of India, announced the opening of a new Immigration Check Post (ICP) at Land Port Darranga in Tamulpur, Assam. He emphasized its significance for Eastern Bhutan and Northeast India, stating it will enhance connectivity and strengthen ties with Bhutan.

The inauguration ceremony will be attended by Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya and Bhutan’s Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay. The ICP is strategically located just 700 meters from the Bhutanese border, covering 14.5 acres with modern facilities to boost cross-border travel and trade.

The ICP is expected to enhance regional connectivity and economic growth, leveraging National Highway 27 and Bhutan’s customs infrastructure. It aims to promote trade expansion, particularly with Bhutan’s industrial output from Mottanga, and strengthen economic and cultural ties through the “Samjong” brand and Samdrup-Jongkhar markets.
