Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury Calls for More Time Before New Criminal Laws Start on July 1

Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has raised concerns about the quick implementation of new criminal laws set to begin on July 1. He believes more consultation is needed to ensure everyone understands the changes.

Concerns About Hasty Implementation

Chowdhury stated, “The three criminal laws that will be implemented from tomorrow have many issues on which more clarity is required. Through centuries, the laws that are being followed, if it is changed overnight, then the common man and the lawyers of smaller courts will face difficulty.” He emphasized that more time should be given to help smaller city lawyers understand the new laws.

Need for Public Confidence

Chowdhury also mentioned that the common man should be taken into confidence before implementing the laws. He said, “Before implementing it, more debate should be held and people should be taken into confidence. If the implementation is delayed by a few months or a year, it will not make any difference.”

Government’s Stand

Minister of State for Law and Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal, announced that the new laws, Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, Bharatiya Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, will replace the IPC, CrPC, and Indian Evidence Act. Meghwal assured that training facilities are being provided nationwide, including by the Bureau of Police Research and Development, judicial academies, and national law universities.
