Abu Dhabi’s Liwa Date Festival 2024: Celebrating Heritage and Innovation
The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) is taking part in the 20th Liwa Date Festival, held from July 15 to 28, 2024, in Liwa, Al Dhafra Region, Abu Dhabi. The festival is under the patronage of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court.
Organized by the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, the festival aims to promote the Al Dhafra region’s heritage and economic growth. ADAFSA will highlight its role in developing the palm sector through various plans and programs to enhance palm cultivation, date production, agricultural sustainability, and biosecurity.
This year, ADAFSA will introduce its comprehensive services to farm owners, focusing on agricultural extension services, pest control for palm trees, and integrated pest management programs. They will also promote best practices in palm tree care, including the use of pheromone and light traps and treatment methods for palm trunk infestations.
ADAFSA will offer awareness lectures on good agricultural practices, organic farming, and climate-smart agriculture. They will also present innovative practices like drone technology for aerial farm surveillance as part of their Smart Agricultural Control Programme.
ADAFSA experts will be on the judging panel for the date competition, answer visitor inquiries, and provide technical advice. They will also promote the third edition of the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Security Week (November 26-28) and the first Global Food Security Summit, attracting top officials and experts to discuss the future of the sector.
Additionally, ADAFSA will promote the Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Agricultural Excellence Award and the Middle East’s largest fodder market, providing high-quality animal feed to UAE livestock breeders.
The Liwa Date Festival celebrates the significance of palm trees, supports local farmers, and features traditional competitions, handcrafts, and a children’s village.
