Abu Dhabi’s Big Bike Race: The Third Bike Abu Dhabi Gran Fondo

The Abu Dhabi Sports Council has announced that the third Bike Abu Dhabi Gran Fondo will be held on November 16, 2024. This exciting cycling race will cover a 150 km route, starting in Abu Dhabi and ending in Al Ain.

The total prize pool for this year’s race is AED 2 million, making it one of the most important sports events in the UAE. The event supports Abu Dhabi’s efforts to organize world-class cycling events and highlights the importance of cycling for health.

Aref Hamad Al Awani, General Secretary of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said, “The third edition of the Bike Abu Dhabi Gran Fondo provides a distinguished experience for cycling fans, as it brings together both amateur and professional cyclists on a long track that passes through different areas in Abu Dhabi.”

Since its launch in 2022, the Bike Abu Dhabi Gran Fondo has seen great community participation. In 2023, 1,200 cyclists from 75 nationalities took part in the race. Al Awani added, “The Bike Abu Dhabi Gran Fondo is not only a race but a celebration of cycling and the unity of society. Its ultimate goal is to encourage maintaining physical fitness, following a healthy lifestyle, and improving the quality of life of society.”

Bike Abu Dhabi is an initiative by the Abu Dhabi Government to unify efforts in achieving the emirate’s long-term goals in cycling. The International Cycling Union recognized Abu Dhabi as a “Bike City” in November 2021 for its commitment to promoting cycling as a healthy daily activity, a sustainable means of transportation, and a competitive sport.
