Abhishek Sharma Scores First T20I Century, Yuvraj Singh Congratulates Him
Harare, Zimbabwe – India opener Abhishek Sharma made his second T20I against Zimbabwe memorable by scoring his first century in the shortest format of cricket. Former all-rounder Yuvraj Singh congratulated him for this achievement.
A Remarkable Comeback
After a tough start to his T20I career, where he scored a four-ball duck in his debut game, the 23-year-old Abhishek bounced back with a quick-fire hundred in the second T20I. He started aggressively, hitting a towering six over deep backward square leg. His 47-ball century included seven fours and eight sixes.
Yuvraj Singh’s Encouragement
After the game, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a video of Abhishek talking to Yuvraj Singh on a video call. Yuvraj, who has mentored Abhishek, expressed his pride and predicted more centuries for the young cricketer. Yuvraj said, “I’m very proud. Well done. You deserve it. Many more to come. This is just the start.”
Gratitude to Yuvraj Singh
Abhishek thanked Yuvraj for his support both on and off the field. He said, “It is all because of him as well. The hard work he has put on me. Two, three years he’s been working really hard on me and everything. I wouldn’t say just on my cricket, even off the field as well. So, it’s a big moment.”
Special Bat from Shubman Gill
Abhishek revealed that he used Shubman Gill’s bat for his remarkable innings. He mentioned that he often uses Gill’s bat when he needs to make a comeback. “I played with his bat only, which I found very difficult. He didn’t even give it to me easily. This has been going on since I was under 14,” Abhishek said.
Game Strategy
Abhishek shared his approach to the game, stating that he focused on scoring runs in overs where he felt confident. He also mentioned a conversation with teammate Ruturaj Gaikwad, who advised him to hit balls that came into his arc without overthinking.
Upcoming Match
With the series tied at 1-1, India will play the third T20I at Harare Sports Club on Wednesday.
