Abhishek Manu Singhvi Nominated for Rajya Sabha Bypoll in Telangana
Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha bypoll from Telangana on Monday. The event was attended by Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, AICC incharge for Telangana Deepa Dasmunsi, and other prominent leaders.
Earlier, a Congress Legislative Party (CLP) meeting was held at the Sheraton Hotel in Hyderabad to introduce Singhvi to the MLAs and Congress party leaders. On August 14, Congress nominated Singhvi as its candidate for the upcoming Rajya Sabha bypoll in Telangana. Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal announced that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge approved Singhvi’s candidature.
The Election Commission of India has scheduled the polling for the vacant Rajya Sabha seat on September 3. The bypoll was necessitated by the resignation of former BRS MP K Keshava Rao, who rejoined Congress recently. Rao resigned from his RS membership on July 4. He is a former chief of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee and had joined BRS in 2013 before returning to Congress.
