Abhishek Banerjee Criticizes Modi Government’s Budget in Parliament

New Delhi, July 24

Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee launched a strong attack on the Modi government, claiming that the Union Budget lacks clarity and vision. He alleged that the budget was designed to satisfy BJP’s coalition partners and was planned by two individuals to keep another two in good faith.

During the discussion on the Union Budget, Banerjee described the BJP-led NDA government as a ‘creaky, shaky coalition’ that is ‘on borrowed time.’ He criticized the budget for being unclear and aimed at appeasing coalition partners, specifically mentioning Bihar and Andhra Pradesh, where JD-U and TDP are in power, respectively.

Banerjee argued that the results of the Lok Sabha polls, where BJP did not secure a majority on its own, signify a rejection of authoritativeness, arrogance, divisive politics, and empty promises. He mocked the government’s use of acronyms for its schemes and responded with his own acronym for the budget: B for Betrayal, U for Unemployment, D for Deprived, G for Guarantee (Zero warranty), E for Eccentric, and T for Tragedy.

He accused the BJP-led government of betraying housewives, daily wage earners, and farmers, citing rising prices and low earnings for many citizens. Banerjee also criticized the government’s handling of rail safety and alleged discrimination against West Bengal in the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and MGNREGA funds.

Banerjee accused the government of using central agencies for politically motivated witch hunts against opposition leaders, including himself and his family. Despite these challenges, he was re-elected from the Diamond Harbour constituency in West Bengal with a significant margin.

He concluded by warning that the political climate is about to become stormy and urged patience.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget in Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
