As the Paris Olympics concluded with a grand closing ceremony, Abhinav Bindra, India’s first individual Olympic Gold medalist, highlighted the event’s significance beyond sports. He emphasized how the values of gender parity, sustainability, and youth engagement defined the games.

India finished 71st on the medals tally with 6 medals, while the United States topped the list with 126 medals. Bindra took to social media to express his thoughts, stating, “As the @Paris2024 Olympic Games come to an end, we reflect on the incredible moments that have once again shown why the @Olympics is the greatest celebration of humanity. Over the past weeks, we’ve witnessed athletes from around the world push the limits of what is possible, uniting us through their stories of determination, passion, and resilience.”

He added, “The Games in Paris have been a powerful reminder that the Olympic spirit transcends competition– it’s about bringing people together, fostering understanding, and celebrating our shared human experience. Manu Bhaker opened India’s medal tally with a bronze in shooting, becoming the first Indian woman to win an Olympic shooting medal. She also won a mixed team 10m air pistol bronze with Sarabjot Singh. Swapnil Kusale added another bronze in shooting. The Indian men’s hockey team matched their Tokyo success with a bronze, while Neeraj Chopra claimed a silver in men’s javelin throw. Wrestler Aman Sehrawat became India’s youngest Olympic medallist with a bronze in wrestling.
