Aarti Wins Bronze in 10000m Race Walk at World U20 Athletics Championships in Lima
In Lima, Peru, Aarti, a 17-year-old athlete, won a bronze medal in the women’s 10000m race walk event at the World U20 Athletics Championships. She set a new national U20 record with a time of 44:39.99s, surpassing her previous record of 47:21.04s set in March at the National Federation Cup U20 Championships in Lucknow.
China’s Zhuoma Baima and Meiling Chen won the gold and silver medals, respectively, with times of 43:26.60 and 44:30.67.
Other Indian athletes also set new national records at the Championships. Pooja Singh broke the U20 women’s national record in the high jump with a leap of 1.83m, finishing second in her qualification group and ninth overall. Sharuk Khan set a new U20 national record in the men’s 3000m steeplechase with a time of 8:45.12s.
The World Athletics U20 Championships 2024 in Lima took place from August 28 to 31, featuring 43 Indian athletes, including 23 men and 20 women.
