AAP MP Sanjay Singh Criticizes New Unified Pension Scheme
New Delhi, India – Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh has strongly criticized the new Unified Pension Scheme (UPS), calling it worse than the National Pension System (NPS). He urged the government to bring back the Old Pension Scheme (OPS).

Singh accused the central government of deceiving employees with the UPS, which involves a 10% salary deduction and excludes paramilitary forces. He explained that paramilitary forces are excluded because they do not serve for 25 years, the required period for eligibility under the UPS. As a result, they will only receive Rs 10,000 per month as a pension.
Singh stated, “The UPS is even worse than the NPS and is a betrayal of the employees of this country. Moreover, paramilitary forces have been excluded from this scheme because they do not serve for 25 years, which is the primary criterion for eligibility under the UPS. As a result, they will only receive Rs 10,000 per month as a pension. Furthermore, a 10 per cent deduction will be made from employees’ salaries in the name of the pension, and the entire sum will be held by the government, which will then provide a pension based on the average of the last 12 months’ salary.”

Jan Suraaj chief Prashant Kishor commented that the UPS seems to be a middle ground between the NPS and OPS but doubted it would satisfy those wanting the OPS reinstated. Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole also questioned why the government is not restoring the OPS.

The Modi government approved the UPS on Saturday, and it will start from April 1, 2025. The government claims the UPS combines the benefits of both the OPS and NPS, offering a fixed pension amount and inflation-linked increments for retirees who have served for 25 years or more.
