Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh has called on the Delhi Lieutenant Governor to take action against officials following a tragic flooding incident at a coaching centre in Old Rajinder Nagar, which claimed three lives. Singh accused the BJP of conspiring with the LG and assured that action would be taken against those responsible.

Singh stated, “It is a very unfortunate incident. Many coaching centres are running libraries and classes in their basement illegally. Action will be taken against the officials who are involved in it. The officials are not working and it is the responsibility of LG of Delhi to take action against them.”

He further questioned, “I want to ask the BJP why are they punishing the people of Delhi? They took away the right to transfer the officials and now, when it comes to taking action, they (the BJP) are conspiring with the LG of Delhi. We will expose them.”

In response, BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal stated that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is under the control of AAP, which has been ruling Delhi for the past nine years. He criticized AAP for not finding a concrete solution to prevent such incidents.

Khandelwal said, “It’s not about blaming. MCD is under AAP, and that party has also been ruling Delhi for the last 9 years. Incidents like this happen every year but AAP has found no concrete solution to tackle this issue.”

He added, “Those officers who are responsible for it must be severely punished to avoid repeating such incidents in the future. Mere sealing a few coaching institutes won’t help have a long-term solution.”

The flooding incident occurred at Rau’s Study Circle in Old Rajinder Nagar, leading to the deaths of three students. The MCD has initiated disciplinary proceedings against the executive engineer and assistant engineer of Karol Bagh Zone. Delhi police have arrested seven individuals, including the owners of the basement and a driver whose vehicle damaged the building’s gate. The accused have been charged with culpable homicide and other offenses.

In response to the incident, the MCD sealed the basements of 13 coaching centres in Karol Bagh for violating building bye-laws. Earth movers were used to remove encroachments over drains in Old Rajinder Nagar following protests by students.
