AAP Announces Candidates for Punjab By-Polls

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has revealed its candidates for the upcoming by-polls in Punjab, scheduled for November 13. Gurdeep Singh Randhawa will contest from the Dera Baba Nanak assembly seat, Ishaan Chabbewal from Chabbewal, Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon from Gidderbaha, and Harinder Singh Dhaliwal from Barnala.

Controversy Over Election Date

Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa has requested the Election Commission to postpone the by-polls as they coincide with Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s birth anniversary. Bajwa emphasized the importance of allowing people to observe their religious duties while participating in the democratic process.

Election Commission’s Announcement

On October 15, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar announced by-polls for 48 assembly constituencies, including nine in Uttar Pradesh and the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala. The elections will occur on November 13, with some constituencies voting on November 20. Results will be declared on November 23.

States Involved in By-Polls

The by-polls will take place across 15 states, including Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal.
