Aaditya Thackeray Questions Transparency After Rs 5 Crore Seizure in Pune

In Mumbai, Maharashtra, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray raised concerns about transparency following the seizure of Rs 5 crore in cash by Pune rural police. Thackeray emphasized the need for a neutral Election Commission to reveal the money’s owner. He suggested that if the ruling party is involved, the truth may remain hidden.

Thackeray also discussed the state government’s extension of the deadline for feedback on the draft Housing Policy to October 31. He promised that a new housing policy would be created with public and expert consultation, opposing policies made for builders’ profit.

The Pune Rural Police seized the cash during a checkpoint operation at Khed Shivapur toll. Superintendent of Police Pankaj Deshmukh stated that the money was handed over to the Income Tax Department for investigation.

NCP-SCP leader Jitendra Awhad claimed that large sums of money are transported via unchecked helicopters. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut alleged that Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde promised Rs 50 crore to each MLA for election victories, with Rs 15 crore already transported.

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam denied any connection between his party and the seized money, urging a truthful investigation. NCP-SCP MP Supriya Sule called for transparency in the investigation.

The Maharashtra assembly elections are set for November 20, with results on November 23. In 2019, BJP won 105 seats, Shiv Sena 56, and Congress 44.
