Karnataka Congress Files Complaint Against BJP MLA Basangouda R Patil
The Karnataka Congress has lodged a complaint against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Basangouda R Patil (Yatnal) with the Karnataka Director General of Police. The complaint is in response to Patil’s statements about Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Congress workers are demanding strict legal action against Patil.
Patil, who represents the Vijayapura constituency, criticized Rahul Gandhi for his remarks on caste during a recent visit to the United States. Patil questioned whether Gandhi knew his own caste and made comments about his parentage, suggesting Gandhi was unsure if he was born to Muslims or Christians.
Patil was quoted saying, “Rahul Gandhi travels to America today and makes anti-national remarks. Not only does he not know what caste he was born into, but he wants to undertake a caste survey. He is unsure if he was born to Muslims or Christians.”
Karnataka BJP Chief BY Vijayendra also criticized Gandhi and the Congress party, accusing them of hypocrisy and authoritarianism. Vijayendra said, “Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party’s pretense as the messiahs of ‘Mohabbat ka Dukaan’ has been unmasked. Their attempt to stifle press freedom and silence legitimate questions about Hindu persecution in Bangladesh exposes their hypocrisy. Imagine the authoritarianism they would unleash if they ever came to power–echoes of the Emergency era are unmistakable.”
Earlier this month, Rahul Gandhi was on a three-day visit to the US, where he met several US leaders and interacted with the Indian diaspora. His remarks on reservation and the Sikh community during this visit have sparked controversy, with the BJP accusing him and the Congress party of inciting people through a ‘divisive’ agenda.
