Ambubachi Mela Begins at Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati

The annual Ambubachi Mela at the historic Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati, Assam, is set to begin on June 22. This festival celebrates the yearly menstruation of goddess Maa Kamakhya.

Preparations and Arrangements

Assam Tourism Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah announced that all preparations for the festival are complete. He mentioned that no VIP passes will be issued on June 26 and 27 when the temple doors will be opened.

Temple Rituals

Kabindra Prasad Sarma, the head priest of Kamakhya Temple, stated that the Pravritti ritual will be performed at 8:45 am on June 22, after which the temple doors will be closed for three days and three nights. The Nivritti ritual will be performed on June 26, and the temple doors will reopen that morning.

Support and Attendance

The Assam government and district administration have extended their support, including security, transportation, and food arrangements. Last year, around 25 lakh devotees visited the temple during the Ambubachi Mela, and the number is expected to increase this year.

Kamakhya Temple, located atop Nilachal Hills, is one of the 51 Shaktipeeths in India.
