Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal to Resign, AAP Discusses New Leader
New Delhi, September 16: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced his decision to resign. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Saurabh Bharadwaj shared that Kejriwal had one-on-one discussions with all leaders and ministers during a Political Affairs Committee (PAC) meeting. The meeting was held at Kejriwal’s residence to discuss the new Chief Minister.
Bharadwaj stated, “Yesterday, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal announced that he will step down on Tuesday. In this regard, AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal convened a PAC meeting, attended by all senior leaders and cabinet ministers of Delhi. He had one-on-one discussions with all leaders and ministers about the new CM. Tomorrow, a second session of this meeting will take place with the MLAs.”
AAP leader Sandeep Pathak mentioned that the next Chief Minister of Delhi will be decided within the next 1-2 days. A legislative party meeting will select the new leader. Pathak emphasized that Kejriwal’s priority is his honour, not power.
Following his resignation announcement, Kejriwal is set to meet Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Tuesday at the LG Secretariat. The meeting is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Kejriwal has called for advancing polls in Delhi to November, ahead of the scheduled February elections. He stated that if re-elected, it would serve as a “certificate” of his honesty.
Kejriwal was released from Tihar Jail on Friday evening after being granted bail by the Supreme Court in a corruption case related to the alleged Delhi Excise Policy scam. The court imposed conditions on his release, including refraining from public comments about the case and attending all hearings unless exempted.
Following Kejriwal’s announcement, BJP and Congress leaders criticized his decision. BJP MP Manoj Tiwari called it a “PR stunt,” while Congress’ Sandeep Dikshit suggested it was driven by business interests.
