Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], September 15: TMC leader Kunal Ghosh claimed on Sunday that there is a rift between the protesting junior doctors in Kolkata. After posting an audio clip of an alleged conversation between the doctors, he said that one section of doctors is looking for a solution, whereas another section wants the disturbance to continue.

Ghosh stated, “From the audio clip, it is clear that one section of the doctors wants a solution whereas the other section wants the disturbance to continue, this is an indication that taking a predetermined decision, one section wants a solution and another does not. So when Mamata Banerjee came out of the house, she asked them with folded hands to participate in the meeting, she said that it had been three hours, you come into the house and talk, but they did not agree.”

“The audio clip which I have uploaded on social media is of the discussion that took place between the junior doctors before meeting the West Bengal CM on Saturday, it took place on their protest platform itself,” he added. Ghosh had posted the alleged audio conversation on his YouTube platform and also shared it on the microblogging platform X.

The junior doctors have continued their protest for the fifth consecutive night at Swasthya Bhawan in the Salt Lake area, with one of the doctors saying that the protests will continue until justice is delivered. Dr. Aqeeb, who was part of the delegation to meet Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, said that the arrest of Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, has shown that the doctors’ demands were right.

“Sandip Ghosh has been arrested and it shows that our demand was right. What Sandip Ghosh has done is an institutional crime. Many of such principals and officials might be involved in such activities. We want all such people involved in it to resign, we will continue our protests until justice is delivered. We are here for Abhaya, and we will continue seeking justice for her,” he said while addressing the protestors.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday arrested Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, along with Abhijit Mondal, the officer-in-charge of Tala police station, in connection with the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata. The doctor also spoke about the meeting that was planned with the Bengal Chief Minister, saying that they had to return without a solution.

Claiming that they had conceded to their demands to livestream the meeting, he said that CM Mamata Banerjee had also come outside and requested them to have a meeting over tea with her. “…We were asked to come for an official dialogue at Kalighat, we went there. When we went there, we even compromised with our demand… We said to just record the meeting and once it is over, kindly provide us with that recording. The officials didn’t agree to that. The CM came outside and requested us to have a meeting over tea – but the junior doctors said that we would have tea only if justice was delivered. We later gave up on the demand of recording as well and just asked for the minutes of the meeting, but it was told to us that there had been a delay and nothing could be done now. We kept waiting in the rain, but we had to return without any solution and all the junior doctors were disheartened.” he said.
