Union Minister of State Shobha Karandlaje has called for the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to investigate a riot that broke out in Nagamangala, Karnataka. The violence occurred during a Ganpati immersion procession, leading to stone-pelting and arson.

Accusations Against the Government

Speaking to the media, Karandlaje accused the Siddaramaiah government of being biased against Hindus. She stated, “Whenever there is Siddaramaiah government in Karnataka, there is action against Hindus. What happened in Mandya yesterday is an insult to Lord Ganesh and Hindus.”

Details of the Incident

According to Mandya’s Superintendent of Police, Mallikarjun Baladandi, the incident began when the Ganpati procession stopped in front of a Dargah, leading to a confrontation. The police initially managed to clear the situation, but tensions escalated, resulting in stone-pelting and the burning of shops and vehicles.

Current Situation

Mandya District Collector Kumar reported that 54 people have been arrested, and probationary orders have been imposed. Schools and colleges have been closed to maintain control. “The present situation is under control. We have deployed sufficient force and taken all precautionary measures,” he said.
