In Mandya, Karnataka, 52 people were taken into custody following riots that erupted during a Ganpati immersion procession. The incident occurred when the procession stopped near a Dargh, leading to a confrontation and stone pelting.

Karnataka Home Minister G Parmeshwar stated, “Yesterday’s Nagamangala incident shouldn’t have happened. But fortunately, no injuries have happened. The situation is under control.”

According to Superintendent of Police Mallikarjun Baladandi, the procession stopped and started dancing in front of a Dargh, which led to a confrontation. The police intervened, but the situation escalated, resulting in stone pelting and vehicles being set on fire. Seven bikes and six small shops were burnt, and a total of 15 bikes and a car were slightly damaged.

CT Ravi, BJP MLC, criticized the state government, claiming that the incident was planned and that the miscreants were confident of being protected by the government. He demanded strict action against those responsible.

The police have imposed prohibitory orders in Nagamangala to control the situation. Inspector General of Police MB Boralingaiah stated, “Prohibitory orders were imposed in Mandya district’s Nagamangala after a group of miscreants set shops on fire, and two police staff were injured. An investigation is underway.”
